About Akita City
The prefectural capital Akita City adopted city status in 1889, became the first core city in the Tohoku region in 1997, and absorbed the towns of Kawabe and Yuwa in 2005. It is known for Senshu Park on the site of Kubota Castle and for the Akita Kanto Festival in summer. The city office is in Sanno 1-chome, in a building that opened for business in 2016.
