About Mutsu City
The towns of Tanabu and Ominato merged in 1959 to form Ominato-Tanabu City, which in 1960 adopted “Mutsu”, Japan’s first city name written in hiragana. The city is home to Osorezan, one of Japan’s three great sacred sites. The city office is in Chuo 1-chome, having moved in 2009 into a former shopping center building.
