About Rausu Town
Rausu started out in 1923 as Uebetsu Village, was renamed Rausu Village in 1930, and adopted town status in 1961. It lies on the Nemuro Strait side of Shiretoko, inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site in 2005, and is home to Mount Rausu and Shiretoko Pass. The town office is in Sakaemachi.
