About Hakone Town
This Ashigarashimo District town took its present shape when Yumoto Town and four other towns and villages merged in 1956. Hakone is one of Japan's leading tourist destinations, known for Lake Ashi, Hakone Shrine and the site of the Hakone Checkpoint, as well as the hot spring areas called the Seven Hot Springs of Hakone. The town office is in Yumoto, near Hakone-Yumoto Station.
