About Taketomi Town
Taketomi became Taketomi Village after separating from Yaeyama Village in 1914, and it gained town status in 1948. Made up of islands such as Iriomote, Taketomi and Hateruma, it is Japan's southernmost town, with nine inhabited islands. The town office stands outside the town, in Misaki-cho, Ishigaki City, about 230 m from the remote island ferry terminal.
