Uruma City was established in 2005 by the merger of Gushikawa City, Ishikawa City, Katsuren Town and Yonashiro Town. Highlights include the World Heritage Katsuren Castle ruins and the 4.7 km Kaichu Road, which runs across the sea to Henza Island. The city office is in Midori-machi.
