About Karatsu City
Karatsu City was formed in 2005 when the former city of Karatsu merged with seven towns and villages, including Hamatama, and it absorbed Nanayama Village the following year, in 2006. It is home to Karatsu Castle and Niji-no-Matsubara, a national Special Place of Scenic Beauty, and is known for the Karatsu Kunchi festival in autumn. The city office is in Nishijonai and began operating in a new building in 2022.
