About Uken Village
Uken, on the west coast of central-southern Amami Oshima, was established as Yakiuchi Village in 1908 and renamed Uken Village in 1917. Settlements line the shores surrounding the deep inlet of Yakiuchi Bay, and Mount Yuwan, the highest peak on Amami Oshima, rises above them. The Uken Village Office is in the Yuwan area.
