About Honjo City
Honjo City gained city status in 1954 and merged with Kodama Town in 2006. It flourished as Honjo-shuku, a post town on the Nakasendo, and was a center of sericulture in the Meiji era. Honjo-Waseda Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen is in the city, and the city office is in Honjo.
