About Kurume City
Kurume became a city in 1889 as one of the first 31 cities in Japan, absorbed four towns including Kitano in 2005, and became a core city in 2008; it is the central city of the Chikugo region. It is also known as the birthplace of Bridgestone. The city office is in Jonanmachi, an 8-minute walk from JR Kurume Station.
