About Gojo City
Gojo City was established in 1957, when eight towns and villages of Uchi District merged and gained city status, and merged with the villages of Nishiyoshino and Oto in 2005. Gojo Shinmachi, where an Edo-period townscape survives, is an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. The city office is about a 5-minute walk from the north exit of JR Gojo Station and opened in 2021 as a combined building housing national, prefectural and city offices.
