About Kumejima Town
Kumejima Town was established in 2002 through the merger of Gushikawa Village and Nakazato Village, the first of the great Heisei-era municipal mergers in Okinawa Prefecture. It is known for Hatenohama, a sandbar stretching about 7 km offshore, and for Kumejima tsumugi silk, a national Important Intangible Cultural Property. The town office is in Higa, and the Gushikawa branch office is in Nakadomari.
