About Fukui City
The prefectural capital became one of Japan's first cities when the municipal system was introduced in 1889, and in 2006 it absorbed the towns of Miyama and Shimizu and the village of Koshino. The Ichijodani Asakura Family Historic Ruins, the stronghold of the Asakura clan of Sengoku-period lords, are a national Special Historic Site. Fukui City Office is in Ote 3-chome, in a building completed in 1975.
