About Sakai City
Sakai was created in 2006 by the merger of four towns: Mikuni, Maruoka, Harue and Sakai. It is home to Tojinbo, a Place of Scenic Beauty and Natural Monument, and Maruoka Castle, whose keep is an Important Cultural Property. The main city office uses the former Sakai Town Office and is a 10-minute walk from Maruoka Station on the Hapi-Line Fukui.
