About Obama City
Obama became a city in 1951 through the merger of one town, including Obama, and seven villages. It was the center of Wakasa, a miketsukuni that supplied seafood to Nara and Kyoto, and with its many National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties it is also called "Nara by the sea."
