About Kitami City
Kitami, the central city of the Okhotsk region, was formed in 2006 by the merger of the former city of Kitami with the towns of Tanno, Tokoro and Rubeshibe into a new city. It produces more onions than anywhere else in Japan, and its Tokoro district is known as a curling town. The city office is in Odori Nishi 3-chome, where a new office building came into use in 2021.
