Kyoto Inochi no Denwa: phone number and hours

Kyoto Inochi no Denwa opened in April 1982 and has taken calls 24 hours a day, every day of the year since April 1985. Volunteers who have completed training and been certified listen to you, and you can talk without giving your name.

• To make the line easier to reach, calls with a withheld number are not accepted. If your number is set to withheld, dial "186" before the number. The counselor never sees your number.
• You do not have to give your name, and your conversation is confidential. Your religion and beliefs are respected.
• Calls are answered by volunteer counselors who have completed the required training and been certified by Inochi no Denwa.
• Since April 1985 the line has operated 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
• In 2025 the center handled 18,760 calls (not counting silent calls and others that did not become a consultation).

Your municipality (city, ward, town or village) also has counters for welfare, health and child-rearing concerns. Call the main number, explain what you want to discuss, and ask for the counter in charge.
