Wakayama Inochi no Denwa: phone number and hours

Wakayama Inochi no Denwa is a counseling center that opened in September 1985 as the 24th in Japan. About 130 volunteer counselors take turns answering calls 365 days a year, and 073-424-5000 is open 10:00–22:00 (every day of the year). You do not have to give your name, and counseling is free (call charges apply).

  When the phone line is hard to reach, the center points to the online counseling on the Federation's website as an alternative.

• About 130 volunteers who have completed the prescribed training course and been certified as counselors take turns answering calls 365 days a year without a break.
• You do not have to give your name, and your conversation is confidential. Counseling is free, but call charges apply.
• Calls with a withheld caller ID are restricted. If your number is set to withheld, dial "186" before the number. The counselor never learns your number.
• Because counselors listen carefully, the line can be hard to reach; in that case the center advises waiting a while and calling again, or using another Inochi no Denwa center elsewhere in Japan.
• The center has taken part in the daily toll-free line since July 2020 and also joined the Cabinet Office's "Loneliness and Isolation Consultation Dial" from 2022 to 2024.
