Kansai Inochi no Denwa: phone number and hours

Kansai Inochi no Denwa is a helpline in Osaka run by a social welfare corporation that began telephone counseling in September 1973. It has operated 24 hours a day, every day of the year ever since, and about 300 volunteer counselors listen to people who feel lonely or hopeless.

• Calls are answered by volunteer counselors; about 300 are currently active.
• Counselors are bound by confidentiality, and callers' privacy is strictly protected. To improve counseling, every call received is recorded automatically and kept under the supervision of a responsible manager.
• Incoming calls exceed what can be answered by more than 10 times, and a single call can last nearly 2 hours, so the line is hard to reach. If you cannot get through, the center asks you to keep trying.
• The center formally joined the Federation of Inochi no Denwa when it was founded in 1977.
• In 2025 the center handled 16,463 calls, an average of about 45 a day.
