Okayama Inochi no Denwa: phone number and hours

Okayama Inochi no Denwa is a telephone counseling service run by the Okayama Inochi no Denwa Association, a social welfare corporation, and opened in April 1984. 24 hours a day, every day of the year, about 180 volunteers take turns listening carefully to your worries and thinking them through with you. You do not have to give your name, and your conversation is confidential.

  Counseling is also available via Navi Dial. It cannot be used from phones with caller ID withheld or from unlimited-calling plans.

• You do not have to give your name, and counselors are bound by a duty of confidentiality, so your conversation is confidential.
• Counseling is free; you pay only the call charges. Your religion and beliefs are respected, and calls are answered by counselors who have completed the prescribed training.
• 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, about 180 volunteers take turns answering calls on several lines.
• Calls are recorded automatically to improve the quality of counseling; recordings are managed appropriately by a designated manager.
• A member of the Federation of Inochi no Denwa since 1983, it receives nearly 20,000 calls a year.
