Shimane Inochi no Denwa opened in July 1979 as the seventh Inochi no Denwa (Lifeline) in Japan. It takes calls on weekdays from 9:00 to 22:00 and continuously from Saturday 9:00 to Sunday 22:00, and is open every day of the year. You do not have to give your name, counseling is free, and your conversation is confidential.

• Counseling is free, you do not have to give your name, and what you say is kept confidential.
• Calls are answered by volunteer counselors who have completed the prescribed training course and been certified.

• Calls are recorded to improve the quality of counseling; recordings are strictly managed under a duty of confidentiality.
• A telephone counseling service that listens carefully when life feels unbearable, when you are in so much pain that you want to die, or when you feel lonely or anxious or have worries you cannot tell anyone.
