Sendai Inochi no Denwa is a telephone counseling service in Miyagi Prefecture run by a social welfare corporation. It takes calls at 022-718-4343 24 hours a day, every day of the year. You do not need to give your name, and your conversation is confidential. Calls are answered by trained volunteer counselors.

• Sharing group for people bereaved by suicide, "Sumire no Kai"

  A place where people who have lost a loved one to suicide talk together. Twice a month, 13:00–15:00. The 1st Saturday is for those who have lost a family member, friend or other loved one; the 3rd Wednesday is for those who have lost a family member. Participation fee 300 yen.

• Free legal consultation and mental health consultation session (commissioned by Sendai City)

  In-person consultation sessions with lawyers, clinical psychologists and others. Held on Saturdays 13:00–17:00. Reservation required; book through the office (weekdays 10:00–17:00).

• You do not need to give your name, and your conversation is confidential. Counseling is free, but call charges apply.
• Calls are answered by volunteer counselors who have completed the required training and been certified. The service is not affiliated with any religion, ideology or political party.
• Calls are recorded to improve the quality of counseling, but the service states that recordings are not provided or disclosed to third parties.
• Calls with a withheld caller ID are not accepted, so you are asked to call with your number shown. If you are unsure, adding "186" before the number works.
• It is also active as a member of the Miyagi Prefecture Suicide Prevention Network Council.

Your municipality (city, ward, town or village) also has counters for welfare, health and child-rearing concerns. Call the main number, explain what you want to discuss, and ask for the counter in charge.
