Akita Inochi no Denwa is a telephone counseling service run by a nonprofit organization (NPO), open every day from noon to 8:30 p.m. (except the New Year period). Calls are answered by volunteer counselors who have completed training and been certified; you do not need to give your name, and what you say is kept confidential.

  A toll-free telephone counseling service focused on suicide prevention, run jointly by Inochi no Denwa centers nationwide. Calls are taken for 24 hours from 8:00 a.m. on the 10th of every month to 8:00 a.m. the next morning, and daily 4:00–9:00 p.m.

• You do not need to give your name, and what you discuss is kept confidential.
• Calls are answered by volunteer counselors who have completed training and been certified.
• Calls are recorded to improve the quality of counseling, but the service states that privacy and confidentiality are strictly protected.
• Calls with caller ID withheld do not connect. Note that the center cannot see the caller's phone number.
• Calls made for sexual purposes, or that abuse or threaten counselors, are refused.

Your municipality (city, ward, town or village) also has counters for welfare, health and child-rearing concerns. Call the main number, explain what you want to discuss, and ask for the counter in charge.
