Kagoshima Inochi no Denwa: phone number and hours

Kagoshima Inochi no Denwa is a telephone helpline that opened in July 1989 as the 32nd center in Japan. Trained volunteer counselors take turns answering calls 24 hours a day, every day of the year. You do not need to give your name, and counselors always keep the content of your call confidential.

  Free telephone counseling is available from 8:00 a.m. on the 10th of every month until 8:00 a.m. the next day (organized by the Federation of Inochi no Denwa, a general incorporated association).

• Since April 1, 2022, calls with caller ID withheld no longer connect. Add "186" in front of the number or change your phone's caller ID setting.
• The caller's number is never shown to individual counselors. You do not need to give your name either.
• Counselors keep what you say confidential and listen without being bound by any particular religion or beliefs. Counseling is free, but call charges apply.
• Counselors take calls after a training course of about 10 months followed by telephone practice and dialogue training, and continue to receive ongoing training afterward.
• The center receives a great many calls every day, and it is estimated that only about 1 in 25 attempts actually gets through.
