Osakikamijima was created in 2003 by the merger of three towns: Osaki, Higashino and Kinoe. It is an island town not connected to the mainland by any bridge, where shipbuilding and citrus growing thrive. The main town office is in the former Higashino Town, with branch offices in Osaki and Kinoe.
