About Takehara City
Takehara gained city status in 1958 through the merger of Takehara Town and Tadanoumi Town. Its townscape dating from the Edo period has been selected as an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, and Okunoshima, known as the rabbit island, also lies within the city. The city office moved to a new building in January 2025.
