Yamanashi Inochi no Denwa: phone number and hours

Yamanashi Inochi no Denwa is a telephone counseling service in Yamanashi Prefecture that opened in 2001 and is run by a nonprofit organization. Trained volunteer counselors listen by phone to people who are struggling alone and finding life hard to bear. Calls are taken every Tuesday through Saturday, 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

• Call charges apply to the telephone counseling.
• Calls are answered by trained, unpaid volunteer counselors.
• The service hopes that people who carry pain they cannot share and find life hard to bear can regain the courage to live through conversation by phone.
• To be able to take more calls, it does not accept calls made to satisfy sexual urges or calls that insult or attack the counselors.
• Since taking its first call in April 2001, it received roughly 99,000 calls in the 20 years after opening.

Your municipality (city, ward, town or village) also has counters for welfare, health and child-rearing concerns. Call the main number, explain what you want to discuss, and ask for the counter in charge.
