About Minamata City
Located at the southern tip of the prefecture, Minamata adopted city status in 1949 and annexed Kugino Village in 1956. It has the Minamata Disease Municipal Museum, which passes on the lessons of Minamata disease, as well as Yunoko Onsen. The city office is in Jinnai 1-chome, where a new building was completed in 2021.
